Café Delay & The Non Event

Updated: May 7, 2022

On April Fools Day, 1st April 2022, we opened Café Delay encore, for a one-off installation as part of The Non Event

Jeanine is charming this anonymous customer who is extemporising their non-sense request in return for a bit something and nothing.

If comedy is all illusion, tension and hoax then the promise of this (non) event was suitably elusive too. And set admidst a genuine inquiry into the boundaries of comedy and Performance Art, the café is also a generous space to play across boundaries: between customer and art-tit.

Fluxus has infused contemporary relational art and our guests are soaked. So Part II of The Non Event offered a cafe owner's perspective on the behind-the-scenes of higher education and art - we will share the video of this shortly. How much is everyone paid to lark about and who is invited to crawl inward? And what labrynthine systems is the academy devising this day, to 'accomodate' creativity? What is the return on their generous investment? A soggy vegan croissant and a weak cup of coffee, la la.
