A trilogy of tragedy: Nina and Frederick; The Singing Nun; Irving Pollard

This is the final presentation in a trilogy of multi media essays about performers who experience a crisis. Take a look at the Nina and Frederick story embedded below. (To enjoy the Nina and Frederick videos too, please access the video playlist)

These stories have been an obsession and a form of a 'possession', for twenty years. At the end, and now that the projects are beginning to look like quaint postmodern parodies. I am interested in what links them.

Irving Pollard, a clown destroyed by war, Jeanine Deckers, a nun ruined by fame, and now Nina and Frederik, the fêted couple who aspired to alternative lifestyles..

hat does the process of shadowing these stories reveal?

What motivates imitation in the fan-performer? What techniques from this process can be applied to performance more generally? What about the fan - what is this experience of being co-present but estranged from someone you admire?

You can approach thee stories at any level - as a researcher, a fan, or with a general interest. There's something for everyone.
